St Mary's is a Grade 2* listed building lying at the south east end of the village in an area of outstanding scenic beauty. Built of brick and flint, the oldest parts date from the early 14th Century. The church is home to a number of outstanding medieval wall paintings dating from the early 14th Century. In addition the eastern wall of the Sanctuary contains a fine tiles Victorian reredos, the front of the altar and the pulpit are adorned with paintings by G W Brownlow and the tower houses a fine peal of eight bells now adapted for chiming.
